I’ve had a TV tuner card in this box a while now. Finally got down to installing MythTV
Previously I could view TV and with a bit of fiddling get an MPEG from the telly or transfer old VHS to disc, now I’ve got my PC set up as with the sort of pausing and rewinding live TV features folks have been known to pay good money for with Sky+ or TiVo.
It works great with my old BT748 card and ntl settop box under Mandrake 10.1. The only problems I had were sorting mplayer dependancies then getting the sound stream to come from the OSS mixer not the TVcard itself.
Using the Bleb XMLTV data seems to work, though not hassle free, I finally seem to have manually populated the MySQL channel and programme tables. Still need a few tweaks before I have a fully functional PVR.
I expect there will be a way of connecting the PC to the NTL pace box – googling seems to suggest options revolve around RS232 connections and/or soldering (eek). The NTL/Pace STB works on non-standard infra-red frequencies so the more usual IR controllers are not likely to work. For the moment I’ll have to set the MythTV to record and also make sure I have a reminder set for the programme on the NTL EPG.
Strange thing is it’s not that I watch much TV anyway :-)
